Our angel mother, grandmother, and friend, Sarah Loraine Wasden Monroe, 104, passed away peacefully at her home in Scipio, Utah, November 13, 2015. Her loving family had been in and out for several days, enjoying one last visit with grandma!
Loraine was born December 24, 1910 in Holden, Utah to Ida Bevan Johnson and Carl William Wasden. She was raised in Scipio, Utah, and was the oldest of 10 children.
Loraine married the love of her life, Merlin Monroe, May 9, 1930. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple. They were blessed with four children, Juanna, Vernon, Ione and Victor.
Loraine lived a long, full life. Her love of music started at a young age, singing with her family, then at weddings, funerals, church, and community activities. She was active in DUP and Cowbelles for many years. She loved quilting, and shared hundreds with friends and family, and donated many to charity.
She and Merlin enjoyed traveling with friends all over the world. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and had a deep, abiding love for her Savior.
Loraine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Merlin Monroe; daughter, Ione Monroe; son-in-law, Blaine Davis; grandson, Brad Davis; a great grandson, and 2 great-great grandchildren, 2 sisters, and 6 brothers. She is survived by her youngest brother, Bruce Wasden; and her children, Juanna Davis (Taylorsville), Vernon and Evelyn Monroe (Scipio), and Victor and Sandy Monroe (Scipio); 15 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren, and 6 on the way.
Loraine was so incredibly loving, kind, and generous. Her special spirit will be missed, but we are comforted knowing what a joyous reunion there was in Heaven when she arrived.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Oveson and the hospice caregivers for the kindness and love that they gave to our sweet mother.
Her funeral will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at the Scipio Ward Chapel. A viewing will be held that morning from 9:30 to 10:30 at the Scipio Ward Chapel and Monday, November 16, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Olpin Stevens Funeral Home, Fillmore, UT. Interment will be in the Scipio Cemetery under the care of Olpin Stevens Funeral Home. Online condolences can be expressed at www.olpinstevensfuneralhome.com. As an expression of sympathy, the family requests memorial donations to be sent to Huntsman Cancer Institute or Primary Children’s Hospital.
