Roy Orson Johnson

Holden

Holden, Utah - Roy Orson Johnson, 80, passed away at home on September 7th, 2024. He was surrounded by his family and dear friend Dee Frost. Roy was born on July 28, 1944, in Fillmore, Utah to George Hart and LaNola Melville Johnson. He married Brenda Lucille Ashman in the Salt Lake Temple on July 14th, 1967.

 Roy grew up in Holden, Utah and graduated from Millard High School in 1962. He attended Southern Utah University and then left to serve an LDS mission in the Southern States. After his mission he moved to Salt Lake City and began working at Garrett Freightlines. After marrying Brenda Lucille Ashman, he continued his education at Weber State University where he graduated with a bachelor’s in economics and business. Roy was drafted as a Marine in 1969 and was later honorably discharged. After being discharged from the Marines, he and Brenda moved to West Bountiful, and he began working at Consolidated Freightways where he spent the rest of his career. After retirement Roy and Brenda moved back to Holden to spend their golden years. 

 Roy was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He had a strong testimony of the gospel. He served in many capacities including Bishopric, High Council, High Priest Group Leader, Gospel Doctrine Teacher, and Stake Clerk. 

 Roy loved his family above all else. He loved taking his family to Disneyland annually. He enjoyed the planning of the trip as much as going! He also enjoyed a good road trip, World War ll sites in Europe, Alaska, and Hawaii. A good time was ALWAYS had by all!

 Roy enjoyed having his brother Mel visit where they spent time watching sports and creating many amazing wood projects for friends and family. Roy also loved his friend Dee Frost who selflessly provided foot treatments, conversations, and care. 

Roy is survived by his wife of 57 years, Brenda Lucille Johnson Holden, Utah; Daughter Courtney Johnson Read (Rene) MiIlcreek, Utah; Son Regan JaeRoy Johnson Millcreek, Utah. Grandchildren: Harrison Ramsey Read, Brooklyn Alexis Read, and Jaedin Cole Johnson; Sister Lyraine Jones, Provo, Utah; Brother Mel Johnson, Las Vegas, Nevada. Preceded in death by his parents Hart and LaNola Johnson and sister Kerma Johnson.

 Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 14th at 11:00 AM in the Holden, Utah Ward. A viewing will be held on Friday, September 13th from 6:00-8:00 PM and Saturday, September 14th from 10:00-10:45 AM both at the Holden, Utah Ward. Interment will be at the Holden City Cemetery under the care of Olpin Stevens Funeral Home.
