Fillmore, Utah - Larry Neely, age 85, passed away March 15, 2025 at Bennion Veterans Home in Payson, Utah. He was born Oct. 1, 1939 in Jonesboro, AR to Cecil O. "Pete" and Lady D Finley Neely.
Larry spent his childhood in Jonesboro and moved with his parents to Lomita, CA where he attended Narbonne High School. When he was old enough, he joined the Army and spent most of his time in Germany. When honorably discharged he returned home and worked as he attended El Camino College where he made life-long friends. Not liking city life, he moved to Portola, a small town in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, where he was employed by the Western Pacific Railroad.
Best known for his positive outlook on life, he enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing, rock hunting and gold mining. He enjoyed tinkering with old cars-especially Jeeps. After retirement he had a small sawmill for a while, raised a few farm animals and drove cross-country 18-wheeler.
On September 18, 2004, Larry was baptized at Sullivan Lake, Metaline Falls, Washington.
He is survived by his wife Carrie Neely of Fillmore; sons Mike (Cherry) Neely, of Carson City, NV; Pete (Michelle) Neely, of Chester, CA; Andy Pearce, of Meadow, UT; and daughter Melinda (Tom) Last of Grass Valley, CA. Larry was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren.
Graveside service will be held on March 24 at 11:00 AM in the Fillmore City Cemetery. Interment will be under the care of Olpin Stevens Funeral Home. Online condolences can be offered at www.olpinstevensfuneralhome.com.
