Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada – Karl Edward Hanson, 48, passed away Wednesday September 27, 2023 at Garrison, Utah, USA as a result of a car accident. He was born July 3, 1975 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Marlene and Douglas Hanson (Newlove).

Karl was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He graduated from Murdoch MacKay Collegiate in 1993. He attained his Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Political Science from the University of Manitoba in 1997. He decided to leave the Prairies  to explore life on the east coast of Canada and enrolled in the Master of Arts (Political Science) program at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia which he completed in 1999. To achieve his goal of becoming a public servant he decided to further his education and was accepted into the Master of Public Administration program. He graduated in 2002. He returned to Winnipeg in 2002 as he had been selected for a 2 year Internship Program with the Government of Manitoba. However, he missed the East Coast  and moved back to Halifax in 2004. He started   working for the Government of Nova Scotia in July 2004. During his career he worked for Agriculture and Fisheries, Health and most recently Service Nova Scotia where he worked as a Senior Policy Analyst.

His main interests were researching his family history and travelling. He spent many hours online and travelling to many places pursuing different aspects of his family history. He was passionate about exploring the world experiencing as many places as possible. He had travelled all across Canada and the USA. He had started travelling to Ireland, the UK and Europe yearly from 2016 to 2019. His travels to Europe were thoroughly researched and every day was scheduled to see and do as much as possible.

He enjoyed spending time with furry friends Brooke, Duke and Misty in Newfoundland. Although he did not grow up with pets he was happy to share snuggles with Brooke and Duke and to take Misty for walks and toss her dummy for her.

He is survived by his common-law wife Tina Linehan Halifax, NS; parents Doug and Marlene Hanson, Winnipeg, MB; brother Shane (Andrea) Hanson Blackfalds, AB; parents-in-law Eugene and Clara Linehan, St. Joseph’s, NL and sister-in-law Joanne (Chad ) Hamilton Grand-Falls, NL and many other family and friends in Canada and the USA. He was predeceased by maternal grandparents Elmer and Della Newlove and paternal grandparents Joe and Phyllis Hanson.
