John C. Ashman

June 11, 1945 — February 5, 2025

Fillmore

Fillmore, Utah- John C Ashman, age 79, passed away Wednesday, February 5th 2025 at Utah Valley Hospital. He was born June 11, 1945 on Mare Island, California to John Clifford Ashman and Joy Elaine Bushnell Ashman. He married Sherrie Dawn Shields on July 22, 1967 in Delta, Utah, later their marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple.

John was born on a California Naval Base but within a few months of life his family moved to Meadow Utah. When he was four years old his family moved to Fillmore, where he resided the rest of his life.

Growing up in Fillmore was idyllic. He played with his sisters and neighbor friends. His family spent Sunday afternoons fishing, taking drives, and having picnics at White Mountain. His dad taught him to fly fish and he loved his mothers cooking. As the youngest and only boy he was doted on and a little spoiled.

John graduated from Millard High School in 1963. He briefly attended Southern Utah University but ultimately joined the National Guard, and moved back to Fillmore to marry Sherrie Shields. Together they had two sons John Curtis and Robert J. John was always a hard worker. In his youth he worked at Whiting Brothers Gas Station. He also traveled the state working for Rhodes Brothers Pumps. He retired from UDOT as a surveyor in 2008 after a 23 year career.

John loved shining his Ford trucks. He took those trucks all over Millard County. For years, Saturdays were spent exploring the long forgotten roads of Tabernacle, Sugar Loaf, Whisky Creek, Sandrock Ridge, Paradise and the list goes on. He gathered lots of friends and stories during those years.

Once he was blessed with grandkids he traded in his glory days for family time spent with Sherrie and his grandkids. John loved being a grandpa and showed that love with time, treats, and cash. The more time you spent with grandpa the more cash you came home with.

John is survived by his wife Sherrie, Fillmore. Son Robert (Wendy) Ashman, Fillmore. Grandkids: Carrie (San Bernardino-LDS Mission), Lex, and Jana Ashman, Fillmore. Sisters Joyce Goddard, Fillmore; Dianne Camilli (Keith), Cranbrook, British Columbia. Preceded in Death by his son John Curtis. Parents John and Joy Elaine. Step father Jack Harper. Brother-in-laws William Goddard, Lauren Foster, Stewart Shields, Wallace Shields. Sister-in-law Suzanne Shields.
