James William Law ,90, passed away Thursday April 25, 2024 with his family by his side in Delta, UT. He was born on June 25, 1933 in Tippecanoe Ohio to George Henry Law and Margaret Emma Cecil. He was the 6th of 7 children, 4 brothers and 2 sisters. He married Margaret Ann Slack on March 31, 1956 (later divorced).
Jim was raised in the small town of Deersville, Ohio, His father played the banjo and guitar at barn and square dances and Jim always had a love of country and bluegrass music. Growing up with older brothers playing fast pitch softball, Jim learned how to pitch and enjoyed the sport in high school, the military and later years in Lebec, California where he played on a local team. He also played and loved basketball. Jim graduated from Freeport High School in 1951. On his senior trip his class went by bus to New York City for a couple of days sightseeing. After graduation Jim went to work in a steel mill. Around this time his brother John encouraged him to enlist in the Air Force. He was in the Air Force from 1951-1959. He trained to be an auto mechanic.
When he was stationed in Tripoli, he visited Greece, and Italy. While stationed at Edwards Air Force Base in California he went with one of his friends to Lebec and met Margaret (Marge) Slack on a blind date. They were married on March 31, 1956 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They had 4 children, Ricki Robert, Lisa Ann, Terry Lee, and Timothy Michael.
Jim went from Edwards to Iceland and then Aurora Colorado before being discharged from the Air Force. He then joined his family in the Lebec and Frazier Park California area. He worked as an auto mechanic and was good and always fair. He liked to buy and fix cars. He would drive them for a while and then sell them and look for a better deal. He worked also as a bartender and would arrange to have country bands play on the weekends. He made many close friends that he kept throughout his life. He raised his family in this area.
In 1977 Jim and Marge moved to Summerville Alabama for 3 years and then moved to Bakersfield California where Jim had an auto repair shop, Palm Automotive, until he retired.
He moved to Delta Utah in his later years to be close to his daughter and family. Some of the things Jim enjoyed at this time were going to the Rancher for breakfast, McDonald’s ice cream, stopping by Lovell Service, his dog Pepper, horse races in Ely and Evanston, going to Mesquite, visiting his sons in California and Florida, Jazz game with Ryan, hanging out with Jay, and spending time with his grandkids. Seeing his great grandchildren always made him smile and he usually had some bubblegum or candy to share with them.
He is survived by his children, Ricki Law (Bakersfield, California), Lisa Warnick (Delta), Tim Law (Hernandez, Florida); grandchildren; Ryan Traum, Monica Lovell (JJ), Terice Roper (Mike), Paige Markworth (Braydon); bonus grandchildren; Jaylene (Cary) Crist, Shannon (Brad) Moody, Sterling (Kristina) Warnick: great grandchildren Jade, Briggs, Bodee, McKett, Quae, Taggert, Tucker, Wade, Kara and sister Louise Fantin (New Philadelphia, Ohio); nieces and nephews.
