Dawnetta Keel Carling, 96, passed away Thursday January 9, 2025 in Virgin, Utah of natural causes. She was born in Minersville, Utah on October 6, 1928 to Stanley and Virginia Beaumont of Beaver, UT. She grew up in Beaver, Utah. Dawnetta always loved sports and participated in church ball and softball while growing up. She married Lloyd Keel on June 1, 1946 and they had five children. They were sealed in the Manti Temple on March 1, 1980. Dawnetta loved camping, traveling and watching sporting events of family members of all ages. She especially loved traveling and has been to many states in the United States as well as almost every continent in the world. She worked in the Millard High School lunchroom and retired in May 2000. Her hobbies included crocheting, making quilts, and sewing. She was a member of the East Millard Fine Arts Guild and the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and she enjoyed going to the senior citizen center. She also volunteered her time for several years reading with children at Fillmore Elementary. Dawnetta was always a wonderful cook and hosted Sunday dinners for decades. Lloyd passed away on March 8, 2003, and Dawnetta married Frank Carling on October 22, 2005. During their marriage, she divided her time between Oregon and Fillmore until Frank’s death in 2016.
As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Dawnetta had many callings including, relief society president, primary president, primary teacher, chorister and scout leader.
She is survived by her children Sandra Catlin (Mesquite, NV), Jeff (Jolynn) Keel (Overton, NV), Sydney (Debbie) Keel (Virgin, UT), Laurie (Mike) Holt (Fillmore, UT) and Tracy (Lynnette) Keel (Fillmore, UT) as well as sixteen grandchildren, forty-two great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister, two brothers, as well as her husband Lloyd Keel, husband Frank Carling, her son-in-law Art Catlin and great grandson Trayton Holt.
A viewing will be held on Friday January 17th from 6:00-8:00 pm and Saturday January 18th from 9:30-10:30 am in the Fillmore Utah Stake Center. Following the viewing the funeral will be held at 11:00 am in the Fillmore Utah Stake Center, 25 South 300 West, Fillmore, Utah. Online condolences can be offered at www.olpinstevensfuneralhome.com.
