Holden, Utah – Brenda Lucille Ashman Johnson, 81, passed away on October 30th, 2024, after a short illness with Intestinal ischemia. Brenda passed peacefully and was surrounded by her family. She was excited to be reunited with her husband, parents, and siblings.
Brenda was born on June 25th, 1943, in Fillmore, Utah to Everett Moyle and Florence Rackman Ashman. She married Roy Orson Johnson in the Salt Lake Temple on July 14th, 1967.
Brenda grew up in Fillmore, Utah and graduated from Millard High School in 1961. She attended Southern Utah University where she graduated with a bachelor’s in Elementary Education. SUU is where Mom and Dad began dating and fell in love.
After marrying Roy, they moved to Salt Lake City and lived in the Avenues. Brenda was hired by the Salt Lake City School District to teach at Ensign Elementary and later at Hawthorne Elementary where she retired after 30 years of teaching. Brenda loved teaching and was honored to receive the Who’s Who in American Teachers Award.
Brenda and Roy raised their family in West Bountiful where they had many dear friends. They later moved to Holden and enjoyed retirement in the beautiful country. In Holden, they were able to reunite with old friends and make many new ones.
Brenda was a proud member and former captain of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers (DUP). She started her own DUP camp in West Bountiful and took great pride and joy in DUP. She was recently given a Heritage pin for having 3 generations of DUP ladies in her family. Brenda and her sister Rosa Lee Robins proudly designed 2 pins for the DUP and were honored at a several conventions.
Brenda was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She had a strong testimony of the gospel and enjoyed listening to the scriptures daily. Brenda served in many capacities including Stake Young Women’s and Primary.
Brenda loved her family and was a fierce advocate and supporter of her husband, children, and grandchildren. Brenda never hesitated to stay up late, helping write school reports that her children forgot about or just hadn’t done. She was always on board for games, vacations, and adventures; including fishing in Alaska where she caught a 20 lb. Salmon. She was extremely creative and artistic and loved to scrapbook and do genealogy. She enjoyed reading as well as listening to books and would stay up all night long if the book was a good one. Brenda loved collecting popup books as well as pins from Disneyland. Brenda loved Diet Mountain Dew as well as shrimp from El Matador. Brenda had the patience of Job and had the amazing ability to calm everyone down.
Brenda is survived by her Daughter Courtney Johnson Read (Rene) Millcreek, Utah; Son Regan JaeRoy Johnson (Chu) Millcreek, Utah. Grandchildren: Harrison Ramsey Read, Brooklyn Alexis Read, and Jaedin Cole Johnson; Sister Virginia Ashman Llewellyn (Arlington, Texas) She is preceded in death by her husband Roy Orson, her parents Everett and Florence Ashman, Sister Dorothy Fordham, Brother James D. Ashman, Sister Rosa Lee Robins, and Sister Lea Rose Ashman.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 23rd at the Holden City Cemetery. Friends and family are welcome to come by the cemetery 30 minutes prior to the service for a visitation. In case of inclement weather, services will be held at The Holden Ward Chapel.
