Arvid W Hinton

November 8, 1932 — January 7, 2017

Arvid W. Hinton, 84, passed away in the early winter morning hours of January 7th, 2017 at his home with his beloved sweetheart of 64 years by his side after a short, valiant fight with cancer.

Dad was born November 8, 1932 in Hurricane, Utah to Joseph Hinton and Lena Waddoups. He married Molly Shannon in Alamogordo, New Mexico on November 10, 1952.

Having been born during the Great Depression, times were challenging growing up for the family as it was for most families, when an opportunity was presented, he joined the Air Force in March 1951. Early in his travels he met his lifetime sweetheart and future wife, a petite little Irish girl, Molly Shannon. He and a couple of buddies went to an amusement park, Glen Echo, outside of Washington, D.C. It was there he met Mom whom happened to be there the same day with two of her friends as well. They claim they have been "amusing each other since", for the past 65 years.

After a tour of duty in Korea, they married upon his return in 1952, and thus began a life filled with moving and living in many locations around the world. Their travels took them to Alamogordo, New Mexico, back to Washington, D.C., to England for 3 years, Alexandria, VA; Caribou, Maine; and Beale Air Force, California; with 2 deployments to Vietnam as well.

After 20 years he retired from the military and they returned home to his beloved "Utah". As the expression goes: “You can take the boy out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the boy." This was our Dad. He so enjoyed the beauty and wonders of Millard County, from a hike in the mountains, to drives in the desert, to exploring the volcanoes. He enjoyed photography, and always had a project in the works. At age 80 he built a new garage and we have always been amazed us at his energy. He and our Mom taking care of their home and tending to their many "fur babies" and having their family visit, brought them the greatest joy. He and our Mom were a great team. He will be greatly missed.....however each time we see a blue, blue, sky, or the mountains, or a sunset...we will be comforted and reminded of "our Dad".

He is survived by his wife, Molly daughter: Joyce (Steve) Frampton of Fillmore; sons: David (Minda) of  Syracuse, UT; Joe (Bodie) of Meadow, UT; Darby (Jesse) of Bountiful, UT; grandchildren: Tina (Jason) Rasmussen, April Stevens, Aimee (Steve); Brandy (Dak); Augustina; great-grandchildren: Ember, Mariah, Megan, Britt, Saije, Paisley, Gage, Journey, Tasia, Tyra, Genesis, Xander; and one great-great-granddaughter, Ayzlee.  He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Jane and brother-in-law Raymond, sister-in-law Cherie and 3 nephews.  He is survived by brothers, Olin Hinton, Hurricane, UT; Halvor (Jeri) Hinton, Cody, WY; sisters: Doris Rimington, Meadow, UT; and Lena Jo (Jerry) Turner of Washington, UT.
